A Special Issue on the Topic Problems of the History of Historiography and
Historical Thought in Slovakia
Historický časopis, 2026, 74, 3, pp. 417-421, Bratislava
Abstract: The introductory text to the thematic issue discusses the
development and current state of research into the history of historiography and
historical thought in Slovakia since 1989. Despite the fall of the communist
regime and the opening of new research opportunities, the history of the
historical discipline itself has remained one of the most neglected areas in
Slovak historical scholarship. The text presents the research project
APVV-22-0205 "Problems of the History of Historiography and Historical Thought
in Slovakia" executed by the Historical Institute of the Slovak Academy of
Sciences and Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. It introduces eight
specialized studies included in the issue, analyzing key topics, paradigms, and
personalities in Slovak historiography from the Middle Ages to the normalization
period.
Keywords: Slovak historiography. History of historiography. Historical
thought. APVV-22-0205. Historiographical research in Slovakia.
