Pražská dekáda F. V. Sasinka a jeho „volný směr historický“.
F. V. Sasinek’s Prague Decade and His “Free Historical Direction”.
Historický časopis, 2026, 74, 3, pp. 441-470, Bratislava.
Abstract: The study analyzes the decade (1882–1892) spent by Slovak historian
František Víťazoslav Sasinek in Prague following the closure of Matica
slovenská. It examines his extensive publishing activities in Czech periodicals,
his relations with Czech intellectual elites, and his involvement in
historiographical controversies. Sasinek attempted to promote his romantic,
patriotic interpretation of early Slavic and Great Moravian history, which he
termed the "free historical direction". However, his approach clashed with the
emerging positivistic and critical methodology represented by Josef Kalousek and
Jaroslav Goll's school, leading to his gradual marginalization within the Czech
academic community.
