Abstract: The subject of the presented study is the presentation of partial issues related to the political activities of the descendants of the late Guido Frankopan, the aim of which was to consolidate their position of power in the region of coastal Dalmatia. The policy of multiple azimuths targeting the neighbouring royal families allowed the branch of Guido Frankopan to strengthen its power position even more. Through purposeful tactics, the Kings of Hungary (Stephen V and Ladislaus IV) gradually gave the branch of Guido Frankopan the Modruš and Vinodol Counties, together with the town of Senj, for their intensive support. Apparently, King Charles II of Naples, also known as Charles the Lame, was also not ungrateful to the descendants of the late Guido Frankopan, to whom in one of his charters he gave, in addition to the afore-mentioned territorial units, the Gacko County (Gatacko). The purpose of our paper is equally to highlight the long-standing struggle of the Counts of Veglia with the Republic of Venice to maintain their positions in this region. The frequent involvement of the city in a lagoon in the internal affairs of both the branches of the Frankopan family was undeniable. In spite of the negligence of the descendants of the late Guido to fulfil the obligations laid down, Venice did not dare to take open (military) action against them and deprive the lords of Veglia of the privileges and possessions granted to them in 1261 by Rainer Zeno, Doge of Venice, for hereditary use.
